Critics Consensus

The Age of Adaline ruminates on mortality less compellingly than similarly themed films, but is set apart by memorable performances from Blake Lively and Harrison Ford.

The Age of Adaline | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint The unhurried storytelling matches Adaline's endless life, making this a respectable date movie. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review The Age of Adaline | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Sophie Gilbert The Atlantic Like Adaline, the film gives the sense of being somewhat uncomfortable in 2015, but while the movie makes a case for romanticizing the past, Adaline's story shows the limitations of detaching yourself from the present. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Tongue L This movie was so boring that I had to shut it off early on. Did not like the cast. The acting was mediocre at best. Not sure why this movie received any good reviews? I do not recommend this movie. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review Gabie P I personally loved almost everything about the movie. Except two things. The first being her romance with Ellis? It started very weirdly (a lot of stalking behaviour, but whatever).. and also , like, what about his father emotions ? The 80 year old age gap between him and Adaline ? Did he have no feelings about that ? like , what the hell ??The second thing being how predictable her "getting back to aging" was.But that, at least for me, isn´t that big of a deal. What really bothered me was the romantic relationship in the end.I am glad that she is happy, but that just doesn´t take away how weird it is.Like a 30 year old difference isn´t even that big of a deal compared to an 80 one.Jesus. To end this in a good note, the movie really portrays immortality very well, and how hard it would be for a human being WITH EMOTIONS in that position. It´s very nostalgic and, just , beautifull. The sky drawn on that garage was just, breathtaking.Wow. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Node j The movie was charming: The cinematography made it feel warm and dreamy. Of all its aspects, I loved the story the most. I was constantly pulled into wondering what would happen next and how she would maintain the facade. Blake Lively and Harrison Ford stood-out. The message - mortality is not that bad considering how everything around you is in an eternal flux - is not lost on me. This plays on Buddhist themes of impermanence: We wish to live forever, but that very notion is profoundly opposed to the natural order of things. Its only because we die that life is truly beautiful and miraculous. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
